I assist my clients in awakening to the divine truths of interconnectedness and compassion through the innate wisdom of their higher mind and consciousness.
I am from the midwest United States and have lived here my whole life, having grown up in Waukesha, WI (near Milwaukee). Through childhood, I absorbed and emulated the solid midwestern values of hard work and humility, and learned by example that it was possible to embody an entrepreneurial spirit as I watched my mom and dad open and operate a successful manufacturing company. Thus, I believed I could have, do, and be ANYTHING upon which I set my mind!
I came to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis, MN) for college, and fell in love with the area, its culture and progressive ideals. Minneapolis has afforded me an incredible opportunity to embrace the holistic health community, within a diverse and supportive environment.
I have three beautiful adolescent children, two girls with a boy between them. My children have been my BIGGEST teachers, as most parents will understand! The challenges and blessings I've endured with them have been the "real life" training that has given my experience as a hypnotherapist true substance and meaning.
In 2016 my former husband and I divorced. This recent experience has been, by far, the catalyst for the greatest period of growth and transformation my adult life. As a result, my private practice as a hypnotist has evolved and expanded; I have embraced the challenges as true opportunities for connection to my clients in ways I could not have formerly anticipated. This time in my life has also afforded me the deep gift of returning to graduate school to pursue my masters in psychology and counseling services. I am grateful!
I find ways every day to enjoy myself. I play with my children and practice "laughter therapy" on a regular basis! Humor is one of my favorite ways to appreciate life, and I have a beautiful circle of supportive friends and family that remind me regularly of the million things that REALLY MATTER.
I make time to experience "nature therapy" too, spending as much time as possible OUTSIDE when the Minnesota weather cooperates! I love to hike state parks and tend my garden. I also adore cooking healthy food, baking (not so healthy-but delicious!) and decorating desserts - I got really good at making cake pops a few years ago. Reading, yoga and running are also activities I enjoy - a balanced life is a HEALTHY life!
When I can, I enjoy visiting other parts of the United States and world, because it broadens my perspective on humanity! Years ago, my whirlwind tour of western European countries taught me that people have much more in common than the differences we may notice. I'm adaptable and flexible, two traits that are useful during travel, as a parent and mental health practitioner!
Before becoming a hypnosis professional, I was a client. In fact, my first experience of hypnosis was as a participant in "stage hypnosis" at a show during my senior year of high school! I was BLOWN AWAY by the effect that hypnosis had on my mind and body. Contrary to feeling vulnerable and manipulated (like I had somehow succumbed to the suggestions of the professional hypnotist against my will), I felt EMPOWERED, like I had discovered a secret ability within myself! Interestingly, I just KNEW that I had created the experience and I had CHOSEN to accept the directions from the hypnotist. That night, the hypnosis "seed" was firmly planted inside me, and began to take root.
The power of hypnosis has been a theme of my adult life ever since - I explored the positive impact that visualization had on people with chronic illness as a patient advocate for a cancer resource center, and completed my practicum in guided imagery for a post-graduate program in Holistic Health Studies at St. Catherine University in Minneapolis. There, I worked with retired nuns and nursing staff at the assisted living facility affiliated with the university, and it was one of the most rich and fulfilling times in my life.
Several years later, I became a Certified Hypnobabies Childbirth Instructor when I worked for a free-standing birth center. The program utilized advanced hypnosis techniques for birthing, and re-ignited my passion for hypnosis. From my years in the childbirth community as an educator and birth doula, I witnessed dozens of women who used hypnosis to literally TRANSFORM the discomfort of childbirth into a comfortable, even enjoyable process. I was convinced: hypnosis really IS a superpower we can all access!
I also realized how much I loved teaching. Since then, I have continued to enjoy instructing others and nourishing my "inner teacher" through leading groups, including self-hypnosis classes.
Finally, I scheduled several sessions of hypnosis with an experienced hypnotherapist. I uncovered so many "hidden" aspects of myself that would have otherwise remained locked away in my subconscious memory. I discovered that there is no habit, emotion, physical challenge or past experience that is immune to the transformative ability of hypnosis. It was at this time, in the summer of 2014, that I devoted myself to hypnosis, becoming certified in hypnotherapy with one of the modern leaders in the field, Cal Banyan.
Most recently, I've received my graduate degree in Counseling and Psychological Services at St. Mary's University of Minnesota. With a master's degree and eventual licensure in Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC), I'm excited for the opportunity to expand my scope of practice and reach more individuals in service to the mental health profession. I am dedicated to expanding awareness around the holistic nature of the mind, body and spirit, and I look forward to working with you!
